Like many people in traditional large organizations since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, prior to me leaving ABN Amro at the end of 2011, I was required to go through a traditional outplacement program in ‘preparation for the labourmarket’ as HR saw it.
It was actually a waste of valuable time and money for ABN Amro, but also for me personally. Why? Because even then the chance for someone like me (50plus) to find a new similar job with a comparable salary was practically nil.
Traditional outplacement is a waste of time, especially now if you are 50plus.
And that is even more the case during the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis in my home country The Netherlands and in many other countries in Europe and in the world.
I knew it probably would be, so since the year 2000 I had been working on what I had called my online plan-b, my personal future-proofing right-skillingplan.
