many companies from the ‘old normal economy’ prior to Covid-19 like business schools, management consultants, career coaches and corporate HR departments, mainly talk about ‘skilling’, ‘reskilling’ & ‘upskilling’.
What they actually mean is “corporate skilling’ and ‘Future corporate skills’.
they are of the opinion that you should learn new corporate skill, corporate future skills, with their expensive courses, programmes and coaching. And taht is only normal. Why? Because they have huge fixed costs and they trainers, professors and coaches have ‘old economy’ knowlegde and experience. And with that business model, they make their money!
What is personal right-skilling?
But what you should focus on now to avoid wasting valuable time, money and energy is on personal right-skilling. What that is?
Personal right-skilling means that, based on your personal competency profile and the real opportunities in the work market during and after Covid-19, you learn the right skills YOU NEED as quickly as possible. To increase your chances of success in the new online labour market and work market of the gig-economy.
What is a personal righ-skilling plan?
For example, I do personal right-skilling and mainly online and with blended learning modules and programmes on demand. What I have been doing since 2001 as “plan-b”, full-time since the end of 2011 since I have to pay for education, training and coaching myself, is to make a personal right-skilling plan and constantly adjust that plan.
This is a short term plan based on relevant lifelong learning: learning the right skills that will help you personally survive in times of crisis and help pay your bills. For me personally that is part of my minimalist lifestyle, minimalist entrepreneurship based on online & offline revenuestreans. And I currently mainly do this online and with self-study.
On average 2-3 hours a day, especially now. When, where and for how long I want with self-study, online tutorials, assignments and online coaching on demand.
