Corporate Digital Skills Are Irrelevant If You Want To Start, Grow & Scale An Online Business Successfully

Corporate Digital Skills Are Irrelevant For Successful Entrepreneurship by Tony de Bree

Good morning.

Exactly ten years ago I left my well-paid corporate job at ABN Amro Bank to be able to do a full-time ‘hybrid’ business and to earn money without the burden of a large corporate organization suffeering from ‘organizational obesitas’.

I soon discovered in 2001 during my first step to become self-employed with my ‘online plan-b’ in addition to my regular job, that many of my corporate skills, education and training were of little use.

What are corporate skills?

Corporate skills are specific, person-related characteristics that are reflected in successful behavior within a large business organization. These competencies determine whether you are suitable for a specific position and whether you fit within the, in this case, corporate organizational culture of a large traditional company. This concerns corporate social skills, corporate sales & marketing knowledge and experience and corporate digital skills.

Corporate digital skills are irrelevant to start, grow and scale an online business successfully

In the year 2000, I started to learn how to make money online from home. I quickly discovered that, with a few exceptions, my corporate digital skills and degrees were irrelevant to starting, growing and scaling a successful ‘making money from home’ online business.  In my case, by writing and selling Internet marketing e-books in English, and software, my ‘online plan-b’.

No more corporate digital skills training.

And that is why, immediately after my departure from ABN Amro in 2011, I completely stopped following corporate digital skills courses and other corporate courses including corporate social skills and corporate digital marketing courses by the way.

What I have done since then and still doing every day between 1-3 hours is focus on following tailor-made ICT courses and digital marketing blended learning courses . In my own time, at my own pace and at a much lower cost using online tutorials and ‘how-to-make-money-online with our software’ webinars.

So if you want to start doing business successfully online and grow & scale your online business staying small with ICT and follow relevant digital skills education, training & coaching, stop following corporate courses, including corporate management courses, corporate soft-skill courses and corporate digital skills courses.
