Corporate Skills Irrelevant For Successful Online Entrepreneurship

Corporate Skills Irrelevant For Successful Online Entrepreneurship by Tony de Bree

Corporate Skills Irrelevant For Successful Online Entrepreneurship.

Almost 11 years ago I left my well paid job at the global ABN Amro Bank to become an independent business owner, a hybrid entrepreneur. In blog I share my personal lessons learned about the relevance of corporate skills if you want to become a succesful independent business owner, found your own FinTech or RegTech startup for instance or join a Greentech or Impact scaleup for instance.

What are corporate skills?

Corporate skills or corporate competencies are specific, person-related characteristics that are reflected in successful behavior within a large corporate organization. These competencies determine whether you are suitable for a specific position and whether you fit within the organisational culture of a large traditional corporate or in a large Government organisation for instance.

Corporate skills are irrelevant for online entrepreneurs

Since the year 2000 I started to learn how to make money online working from home with e-books and software as side hustles. I discovered rather quickly that with a small number of exceptions, my corporate skills where actually irrelevant if I wanted to become successfull as independent business owner.

I discovered that I needed specific online entrepreneurial skills including completely different digital skills….and fast. And that is also why I immedately stopped following corporate related management training and buying and reading corporate managementbooks.
