Corporate Skills Are Irrelevant If You Want To Become A Successful Entrepreneur In This Crisis.
Good morning.
in 2011, I left my well paid corporate job at the global ABN Amro Bank to become an independent business owner. Working at home and making money online with a new and healthy work-life balance. In this blog I share my personal lessons learned about the relevance of corporate skills if you want to become a succesful independent business owner, found your own FinTech, RegTech or other high-tech startup or join a b2c, Greentech or Healthtech scaleup for instance.
What are corporate skills?
Corporate skills or corporate competencies are specific, person-related characteristics that are reflected in successful behavior within a large corporate organization. These competencies determine whether you are suitable for a specific position and whether you fit within the organisational culture of a large traditional corporate or in a large Government organisation for instance.

Corporate skills are irrelevant for entrepreneurs.
Since the year 2000 I started to learn how to make money. Hybrd working & working at home with on-demand short e-books and software as side hustles and my personal online plan-b. I discovered rather quickly that with a small number of exceptions, my corporate skills where in general actually irrelevant if I wanted to become successfull as independent business owner and stay relevant for my existing and new customers.
I discovered that I needed specific entrepreneurial soft- and hard skills including completely different digital skills….and fast. I needed digital right-skillling for entrepreneurs to become and stay relevant for my current and new customers.
And that is also why I immedately stopped following corporate related corporate management training, corporate ICT-courses and buying corporate managementbooks.
And that is even more the case since The Great Resignation and more recently The Great Layoff has started in many countries.
