7 Digital Trends For Entrepreneurs In 2021 Updated for 2024

7 Digital Trends For Entrepreneurs For 2021 by Tony de Bree

Updated: April 18, 2024

Good morning.

There is a lot of attention on ‘corporate’ digital trends by companies like Forrester, Gartner and the large software companies in 2021. To be honest, as independent entrepreneur, I am not interested in what these corporate trendwatchers are saying at all. Why? Because 1) they focus on corporate trends in the world of the large corporates and other large organisations and 2) what they see as trends is irrelevant for me as independent entrepreneur. Making money online since 2000 as a side-hustle and since 2011 full-time with my virtual organisation……and I love it!

From the perspective of an independent business owner, these are in my opinion the most important digital trends for entrepreneurs for 2021.

1. Working from home.

I myself was better prepared for a number of reasons. My father went bankrupt when I was 18 and as a result, I was forced to generate income in other ways to pay for my studies and support myself ald to learn relevant digital-skills.

2. Making money & saving money online.

Because of the pandemic and the local lockdowns, many entrepreneurs have been forced to focus on how to make money and save money online. many independent women and working from home worldwide where already doing that in the so-called ‘gig-economy’, but many other independent entrepreneurs have now also been forced to learn online business models and above all online revenuemodels.

3) eCommerce.

Because of the Covid-pandemic, more and more people have been purchasing products and services online. And as a result of that, more and more corporates, starters, startups, scale-ups, SMEs and local restaurants and stores have ventured into eCommerce-business models and revenue models.

4) Growing and scaling online staying small.

Large companies have been trying to become small, Lean and Agile for 30 years using ICT. Smart and successful entrepreneurs have succeeded in growing and scaling online, staying small with their organisation. How? By developing their own virtual organisation and using smart ICT.

5) Sales & marketing automation.

One of the ways smart and succesful independent business owners including online freelancers, founders of startups and CEOs of scaleups have managed to grown and scale online, staying small is because of sales and marketing automation. Including social media marketing and sales social storytelling, webinars and other ICT that helps you tos cale the number of customers you can serve and to reach the right leads without growing your organisation in terms of number of employees and management layers.

6) E-learning.

The e-learning industry has exploded both in the corporate and in the public sector. However, in most cases, the only thing that has been done is putting instructor-led group-training online.

The real revolution however has been in the design for entrepreneurs of individual blended learning courses in my own non-corporate online world. The type of learning activities I have been involved in myself to digital-right skill myself since 2011 and I still spend 2-3 hours per day on as we speak.

7) Everything on demand.

In my opinion the most important digital trend with a huge impact on the business model and especially the revenuemodels of all of us is ‘everything on demand’.

Conclusion.

If you watch digital trends for entrepreneurs working from home already since the beginning of the 21st century, these trends have accelerating enormously since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis. Including the explosion of the use of different types of video online.

And that is why I have been focusing myself since the beginning of that crisis on acquiering and perfectioning the relevant social- and digital skills and especially everything about the use of online video in all these different digital trends. And that is why I have ben helping my customers to make the right choices regarding digital-right skilling and right-skilling talent in general.

And that is also why that on our new site, www.tonydebree.online, every post starts with a video or actually is an online video. Check it out here.
