What is situational change management?
Situational change management is tailoring the choice of change management approach to the situation, to the context. By tailoring your change management approach to each situation, you increase the chance that your country, your corporate, your startup or your scale-up will survive a crisis such as the climate crisis, the Corona pandemic or the invasion of Ukraine.
I introduced the terms ‘situational change management’ in 2014 in my Dutch bestseller ‘Dinosaur or Crocodile. The future of managing, organizing and collaborating’.

Why? Because depending 1) on the situation, the external environment 2) the size of the company/the organistion and 3) ‘the internal disease or diseases’ internally within your own organisation, a different approach to change must be chosen and implemented quickly and just-in-time.
This means that as a senior manager, management consultant and/or change manager you must:
1. Choose the right change management approach given the external environment and the internal situation;
2. Implement that change management approach quickly in your whole organisation in an integrated way….and fast.
